Dakar has been the rallying point for three former African heads of states, city council mayors, local government officials ; among the over 500 participants attending the sixth edition of the conference of local government officials known as AFRICITIES.
Former South African President Thabo Mbeki, together with Ex-Presidents Pedro Pires of Cape Verde, and Nicephore Soglo of Benin during the opening of the summit chaired by Senegal's President Macky Sall; all underscored the pivotal role that local governments play in the development of many nations and urged that strenghtening Africa's cities and local governments was of utmost importance.
The theme for this sixth summit is "Building Africa from its territories: What challenges for local governments?".
Tonight, a Cultural evening holds in honour of delegates and some particitants attending the Africities summit in Dakar.
Attending the event in my capacity as the Impresario( MC like it is popularly called), will no doubt be another opportunity to capture highlights and share with you all.

Cameroonian journalists in Senegal meet with senior journalists & state officials

What a week!

A host of media practitioners and journalists converged on Dakar for more than a week to attend a series of events including ;
- The highly attended meeting of heads of media outfits.
- The Mo Ibrahim events (From November 9-11 The Mo Ibrahim Foundation held its democracy weekend in Dakar). Key activities included , a public musical concert showcasing great musical talents and savoir faire of some African artists, a prize award ceremony and the public discussion on the African youths.

On the sideline, Cameroon's Minister of Communication and the Spokesperson for the government granted an audience to Cameroonian Journalists based in Senegal (CAMJOSEN).It was an ocassion to exchange ideas regarding the practice of journalism by journalists in the diaspora and to brainstorm in view of the upcoming 'Etats generaux de la comunication" to hold in December 2012 back in Cameroon.

At the Cameroonian Embassy, Cameroon's Ambassador Jean Koe Ntonga organised a dinner, in honour of Cameroon's Minister of Comunication Issa Tchiroma as well as some Cameroonian journalists based in Senegal. He encouraged the work being done by all and called on all to continue to use their skills towards building Cameroon.Photo credits; Mabi

My Journey To Sierra Leone!

My journey to Sierra Leone captures highlights and sums up my mood from the moment I received last minute "safe journey" from colleagues till when I finally arrived in Free-Town. I was setting out on a misson to Sierra Leone to support the launch of the Women's Situaton Room- a platform to promote peace and security in view of upcoming elections and to also to work with the communication team throughout the series of events to take place in Sierra Leone, in the days ahead . I travelled from Dakar to Sierra Leone September 21, 2012.

Enroute to the Airport
Upon arrival at the airport in Sierra Leone like everyone else, I bought a ticket for the boat, but I was just wondering what it woud be like crossing to Free town in a boat- amid the rains that greeted our arrival-see the look on my face! How I wish I could do this otherwise!
Doing my utmost to enjoy the ride but it was bumpy with the waves... Oh My God! But we made it to the other end and I was happy to meet the female driver and one other colleague who had come to pick me up-How nice to meet a female professional driver-really sooo nice !

The Kids Klub Highlights and Pics !

At The Mabs Kids' Klub

We have been bustling with actvities at the Mabs' Kids Klub. For two weeks some 16 kids gathered at the Klub and we all worked on many different projects- dress art, fun jewlry, crafts,origami,colouring, drawing, painting,puppet show, show and tell, singing , dancing,choreography,public speaking drill, kids' talent show, storytelling and lots more!
It felt so nice having to teach and help some kids from french-speaking backgrounds, learn how to introduce themselves in English.
We played with numbers, letters, shapes, colours and words. We visited the flower garden to get closer to nature and to identify the different colours and objects.
We used the flute, the drums, the tambourine to play and sng along some famous kids songs like A-B-C-D-E-F-G....H-I-J-K., Londonbridge is falling down

At the Klub we never say'we can't. We rather 'believe we can' and so 'we try really hard to make it'.
How about that?

Well Done Daughter! School Is Out!
It was the last day of school and so parents were invited to be part of the end of year festivity at my daughter's school. We were treated to songs, poems ,dance, the debate and lots more.
A key point during that ocassion was the award of prizes to the best students. She had gone in for a completely bilingual programme-meaning she had to double her efforts this year. And so she did! When my daughter was pronounced the best in her class- we all felt really proud especially because she has kept her record of "all-time-best" even as she moves from one class/level to the next.
Well done daughter, We are proud of you! Keep working hard!
